We use a set of standards to evaluate and report on quality and improvement in Scottish education. The standards are set out in these series of quality frameworks.

Class 3: How we take decisions and what we have decided
HMIE is accountable to the Scottish Government under the Director-General for Education and Justice.
The Leadership Team in HMIE is its highest decision-making group. You can find information about the team, including membership, on the leadership team page.
Information about our advisory council including it's role and membership, is available on the Advisory Council page.
As soon as practicable after the end of the financial year, we will publish an annual report on the activities of the Chief Inspector. This will contain further information on our engagement with our Advisory Council, including a summary of any advice provided by the Advisory Council and the Chief Inspector’s response.
Class 4: What we spend and how we spend it
HMIE is funded entirely by the Scottish Government in respect of staff, accommodation, equipment and other expenses and operates a shared services approach with the Scottish Government.
Class 5: How we manage our human, physical and information resources
HMIE uses the Scottish Government’s Human Resource, Digital, and Record Management systems. Further details of these can be found on the Scottish Government Publication Scheme.

Class 6: How we procure goods and services from external providers
HMIE follows the Scottish Government procurement policy. Details of current and recent contracts awarded will be published on Public Contracts Scotland.
Class 7: How we are performing
Information relating to our performance and how we deliver on our obligations is published after the end of the financial year in the Chief Inspector's annual report.
