Relationships and behaviour: Inspection findings from academic year 2024 to 2025
Between September 2024 and June 2025, HM Inspectors inspected 246 primary, secondary, special and all-through schools.
In January 2024, HM Inspectors (HMI) published advice on how they would strengthen the evidence they gather and report on behaviour through early learning and childcare (ELC) and school inspections.
During every inspection, HMI evaluate the quality of the learning climate and relationships. In order to gather a rich source of evidence about behaviour in schools and settings, HMI:
- listen to staff about current priorities and ongoing challenges around relationships and behaviours
- listen carefully to the views of children and young people, parents, partners and staff
- evaluate the effectiveness of arrangements for promoting positive relationships and behaviour and how well instances of disruptive behaviours are recorded and responded to
